Setting Realistic Health Goals
When I started my healthy living journey, I didn't know where to begin. I read health and fitness articles, but was turned off by the suggested recipes and fitness routines. I knew if I wanted to be great, I would have to set realistic goals.
My first goal was to learn how to eat clean. I tried different healthy foods to figure out which ones I would like the most. I wrote down all the foods I liked and found recipes that I wanted to try.
Here are a few of my favorite clean foods:
- White Fish
- Black Beans
- Brown Rice
- Wild Rice
My second goal was to reduce my portions to an amount that would keep me satisfied. I knew this would be the most challenging part. Both clean eating and portion control require discipline and dedication.
The great news is that over time, your body will become used to eating well and consuming smaller portions.
My third goal was to increase my exercise. Just like I did with my diet, I had to find the fitness routines that best suited me. I’ve always loved to walk and run so I set a goal to do at least 30 minutes a day.
I suggest writing down all your health and fitness goals. Seeing your goals written down will help you stay on track.
Aside from just writing your goals down, you have to make sure they're realistic and not too extreme. When you dive right into the extremes of working out and dieting, it can shock your body. If you're not able to keep up with the goals you set, you will revert back to your old habits.
Eating healthy and exercising are a part of a healthy lifestyle. You want to set goals that will keep you motivated and happy.
