New Year, New Goals

Happy New Year! I'm so excited for what 2017 has to bring. Every new year we reflect on the past year and try to make it better than the last. I am not normally one for making New Years Resolutions. My motto has always been to strive to become better each day. 2017 is going to be a huge year since it will be turning 30 years old. I wanted to approach this new year differently.

After a long run with my friend, I was resting and I started thinking about everything I've accomplished in my 20's. I looked over all the great things I've done, what I could've done better, and where I went wrong. While thinking back on these memories, I became emotional. I realized how much I've been through and how far I have come. I decided it would be best to write a clear list of my goals for the new year.

I split the lists into Career, Personal and Financial goals. For each category, I broke it down to more specific goals that I wanted to work obtain. For example, I have been successful with my blog, running and yoga this past year. I elaborated more on each point and wrote ways I could successfully reach them.

First, setting goals increases motivation. In fact, goals and motivation are so intertwined that many definitions of motivation incorporate goals.
Second, setting goals increases achievement. Hundreds of correlational and experimental studies show evidence that setting goals increase success rate in various settings.

Taking “baby steps” are the best way to ensure that you will reach your goals with success. 

Clear goals increase persistence and self efficacy, making individuals less susceptible to the undermining effects of anxiety, disappointment, and frustration.

Another huge component of reaching your goals is deciding how much you are willing to invest in them. During my first marathon training I did research and found that the program would take me 18 weeks of consistent running. After speaking to marathoners, they informed me that I would need to cross and strength train in addition to running. I wanted to accomplish this goal so I worked extremely hard and dedicated time and energy into reaching my goal. 

Finishing the marathon was one of my biggest achievements because of all the hard work I put into it.

I highly encourage you to start the New Year off by writing down your goals and how you can obtain them. You are capable of accomplishing anything you put your mind to!
